DIY Splatter Easter Eggs

March 26, 2017

Decorating Easter eggs was always one of my favorite traditions as a kid, so much so that Easter remains one of my favorite holidays to this day! I love getting together with a friends & family and dedicating an afternoon to traditions. Decorating Easter eggs is a fun opportunity to get creative and bring back special memories. Not to mention, it’s a great way to create original Easter decorations that you can admire! This year I went a little more abstract than my normal routine, creating a splatter look. I absolutely love how these turned out! The purple paint popped just slightly over the pink eggs and together the colors felt festive, but still my style. Here’s how I made them…

DIY Splatter Easter Eggs

What you need:

  • White eggs, blown out and dried
  • Food coloring
  • Paint
  • Paint brush

Directions:

First, dye eggs the color of your choice with food coloring. Remember to follow the instruction on the back of the food coloring box. Also, keep in mind that you don’t have to dye the eggs prior, this part is optional since this splatter technique also looks great on white eggs.

Grab paint in one, or multiple colors and a paint brush (use a new paint brush for each paint color). I personally love using organic, natural products – some of my favorites for crafts like these are India Tree Natural Decorating Colors, Natural Egg Dye Kit and Eco-Kids Eco-Eggs Coloring Kit.

Prep your paint splattering area. I recommend doing this outside, since it does get messy – and I highly suggest wearing some gloves, or do NOT to have a fresh mani (save that for after the Easter egg decorating fun)!

Dip the paint brush into paint, then with one of your fingers, flick the paint onto the eggs one at a time… keeping the egg close enough so that the paint actually hits it. Repeat these steps until the desired splatter look is covering your egg. Repeat the process for each egg you’re decorating, and that’s it!

Allow paint to dry for 1-2 hours.

Aren’t these adorable? Plus, they took such little time to craft up! I hope these DIY Splatter Easter Eggs inspire you to get into the holiday spirit and gather with those near and dear!

Do you have any special spring traditions? I’d love to hear about them! Share in the comments section below.

Happy Easter to all of those celebrating!
