Often the most beautiful things are the most simple. Awe-inspiring marvels like a dazzling sunset on the beach or a snowy mountain glistening against an azure backdrop are built of only water, rock, and light. In much the same fashion, these wonderfully chic yet impossibly easy candles can be made in minutes with an artful eye and a few common supplies. You’ll amaze yourself and impress all who bask in the glow of these unassuming masterpieces.

Glass & Greenery Tapers

Materials

  • Clean, empty glass bottles
  • Greenery branches, real or faux
  • Tall taper candles

Instructions

  • Fill your bottles with clean water most of the way to the top.
  • Trim greenery to desired length, about as tall as the bottle, and add to the water.
  • Top with a tapered candle fitted into the mouth of the bottle.

Notes

Tip: We love an excuse to upcycle. Feel free to use any glass container at hand, just make sure your candle fits snugly in the mouth of the bottle or jar.

Wrapped Pillar Candles

Materials

  • Pillar candles in various sizes
  • Gold crafting or jewelry wire

Instructions

  • Insert one end of a piece of craft wire gently into your candle, leaving the other end attached to the spool. Secure it by wrapping over your starting point.
  • Wind the wire around the candle multiple times in your desired pattern.
  • When you’re finished, trim the wire, make a small bend in the end, and insert that bend into the candle so that it touches itself completing a loop, then loop the wire over the end to secure.

Notes

Tip: Whether you leave these candles as a display or put them to use, we suggest lighting the wick at least once for a lived-in look.
