A first impression is everything, and the first thing people see when they enter your abode is the entryway. It may be tempting to write this space off as unimportant, since you’re just passing through, but that would be a missed opportunity. With some simple styling and tasteful additions you can create an inviting space upon the first step into your home. We asked Interior Designer Cortney McClure to share some tips for creating an enchanting entryway.

1

A bench for seating with pillows provides function and comfort; use a mix of colors, textures, and patterns that play off the design of your rug. Change them out every four to six months to reflect the season.

2

Adding a simple art gallery helps to balance out the space and allows you to bring personal elements to the forefront of your home.

3

The scale of your light fixture is important. Make sure the dimensions of the fixture are appropriate for the space and that it provides adequate light when it’s dark outside.

4

Note everything a person sees when they walk in your entry. The interior doors in this space second as décor, with the four panel design and stain.

5

Use a large-scale rug to anchor the aesthetics. Muted tones and textures will help hide grit and dirt from the comings and goings of everyday life.
