¡Salud!

Juices are nutritionally efficient, allowing you to consume a high amount of vitamins and minerals from diverse sources in a short amount of time. For those looking to boost their daily fruit and vegetable intake, it’s a convenient solution when you can’t sit down and nosh a salad. Drinking freshly made juice can enhance nutrient absorption, as it allows the body to bypass the digestion of fiber, making the nutrients more readily available. Chef Adriana Cavita shares three of her favorite drinks.

Pass the Tortillas

Traditionally, tortillas were shaped by hand without a tortilla press. My grandma used to make them like that, and in some small communities women still do. If using a tortilla press, you’ll need a really thin sheet of plastic, like the kind used by a butcher when weighing out meat. In Mexico, women recycle thin plastic bags from the corner shop. They wash, disinfect, and dry the bags with a towel before cutting them to the size of the tortilla press. Parchment paper is a readily available replacement. The number of tortillas the recipe makes will depend on the size you shape them — they could be small (1 oz. each), medium (2 oz. each) or large (3 oz. each).
