Balanced Beauty

The court of public opinion seems to be at a standstill when it comes to cosmetic treatments. We’re bombarded by perfect, filtered faces hawking their favorite collagen smoothie or cellulite-busting scrub. Celebrities who’ve been worked on by some of the best doctors in the world fill our social scrolls selling us creams and patches that are “better than botox” to help us “age gracefully.” What does that term even mean?! Are creams more graceful than injections and lifts? Are we supposed to get cosmetic treatments but not look like we got them? Is one safer than another? Ilana Brit Mechoullam offers her expert opinion on cosmetic procedures and the stigmas that surround them…

A Cue From the Core

Did you know belly dance is the dance of fertility? Rooted in the cultures of the Middle East, home of the ancient and revered fertile crescent, women danced in crop fields beneath the moon to induce a better yield. The sacred ritual was performed by women, for women. Girls were initiated as a rite of passage upon their first menstrual cycle as both a celebration of this significant shift and as a practical tool to assist the body in this new stage of physical demands. The movements serve to ease cramps, regulate bleeding, reduce stagnation in the uterus, drop the hips, and widen the pelvic bowl to prepare for carrying more weight while pregnant. The Next Steps

PPD is more prevalent than you’d think, and it existed long before the medical industry started paying attention. Aside from puberty, the transition to parenthood is often the greatest transformation that one can undergo in their lifetime, bearing significant bio-psycho-social changes. Instead of just talking about PPD, many clinicians and researchers are beginning to focus on perinatal mood and anxiety disorders (PMADs). The Finish Line

When Liza Beres and Jenna Fribley signed up for the Rebelle Rally, they were excited by the challenge and the opportunity to try something new. Although they both had extensive overlanding experience, neither had participated in an organized rally competition. To say that it was a learning experience is an understatement. From teaching themselves how to fix a 1994 Land Rover named Fender to figuring out how to navigate with a compass and drive over sand dunes, they described the eight day rally as truly life changing for both of them…

Calming Tides

While it’s true “mama said there’d be days like this,” not all days are meant to be the same. Most of the time, we keep to our trusty routines, and feel satisfied knowing that the tasks were crossed off, the emails were sent, and the laundry was done. However, research has found that we experience incredible mental and physical health benefits when we push pause and deliberately seek out experiences that trigger a sense of awe…

Ancient Rituals

Our ever-growing to-do lists never seem to get any shorter. The frenzied symphony of activity that eats up our days and weeks can leave us feeling anxious, disconnected, and lonely. When we’re taxed to the max and running on fumes, it can be difficult to hold on to our purpose and remember what we’re truly working for in the first place. Ancient cultures may not have had brunches, business meetings, and bridal showers, but similar to our modern existence, every day was spent working either in preparation to safeguard against threats of weather and wild animals or in celebration of their grace and good fortune. Where we tend to differ is these ancient peoples did not see themselves as separate from the natural forces that surrounded them…
