Ditching Body Distortion

Unless my nieces and nephews sneeze in my face, I’m a pretty healthy person. Like many women, however, I do suffer from a distorted body image. If you don’t know what that’s like, imagine living with that iconic scene from “Mean Girls’’ in your head all day long, where the Plastics engage in their standard routine of picking something about their bodies to hate, and newcomer Cady Heron scrambles to come up with something awful about how she looks to fit in. That scene made the film because nearly everyone can relate to disliking something about themselves. And that’s the problem. Our minds shouldn’t be at war with our bodies. Nobody wins when we fight with ourselves.
